Irini Sarioglou (Dr) was born in Istanbul in 1972. She studied French Literature in France and Istanbul and completed her doctoral studies in Birmingham (UK) in Ottoman and Turkish history. She is a full time researcher at the Hellenic History Foundation (IDISME) and has published a number of books in English and Greek on the history of the Greek minority in Turkey. She specializes in Modern Greek and Turkish history (19th -20th century). Her filmography includes: Zappeion High School for Girls (Script-Research-Narration-Translation), Letters Never Received (Concept-Research-Script-Narration-Translation), The Exiled (Concept-Research-Script-Narration-Translation), The Silent School (Co-Directing-Script-Research), Imvros and Tenedos islands: A tale of memories (Co-Directing-Script-Research), Mikis Theodorakis' Nea Smyrna, Kastellorizo: On the edge of the Aegean etc.

She is Associate Professor at Istanbul University, Modern Greek Studies Department and co-founder of the Hellenic History Foundation based in Athens, Greece.
